tert-butanol can also find applications in the alkylation of p-cresol to obtain 2-tert-butyl-p-cresol and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol, also known as butylated hydroxy toluene, used in the manufacturing of polymerization inhibitors and phenolic resins as antioxidants.
