Analysis Note
The biological activity is measured in a proliferation assay using BALB/MK cells.
Application
Epidermal Growth Factor from murine submaxillary gland has been usedin studying its effects on the development of caustic esophageal stricture in ratsfor preparation of MCF-10A cell linefor the culture of primary hair follicle stem cells from arbas cashmere goat (gHFSCs) and adhesion of hair follicles (HF)
Biochem/physiol Actions
Epidermal growth factor (EGF) blocks gastric acid and pepsin secretion and increases gastrointestinal cell proliferation. EGF stimulates proliferation and migration in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSC), that gives rise to osteoblasts, chondrocytes and adipocytes. It functions as a strong mitogenic factor for various cultured cells. Mutations in this gene is linked to hypomagnesemia. EGF plays a major role in the maintenance of hair and skin development.
General description
Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is the member of EGF-like family of growth factors, that binds to EGF receptor. It is majorly expressed in kidney, parotid gland and salivary gland.
Physical form
Lyophilized from 0.2 µm filtered solution in ammonium acetate buffer.
Preparation Note
Purified by gel filtration and ion-exchange chromatography.
