Application
Ferredoxin from Spinacia oleracea (spinach) has been used: as a substrate for spinach ferredoxin reductase, for reconstitution with chlorophyll-A for scanning electron microscope (SEM) dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX) integrated analysis, as a reductant in adenylylsulfate (APS) reductase activity of P. aeruginosa
Biochem/physiol Actions
Ferredoxin is important in the electron transfer cascade required for this nitrogen assimilation. It has been used in studies of assimilation of inorganic nitrogen from nitrite or nitrate in the absence of ammonium.
Ferredoxins are iron-containing proteins that serve as electron-transfer catalysts in photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation.
General description
Ferredoxin I (Fd I) from Spinacia oleracea comprises 97 amino acid and is an iron sulfur cluster (2Fe-2S). It is synthesized in the chloroplast. The structure of Fd I has conserved active site.
