Biochem/physiol Actions

Methyl cellulose (MC) acts as a laxative and is hydrophilic. It has therapeutic effects against constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and diverticulosis due to its bulk-forming and stool softening properties. MC has the potential to treat patients with ileostomiesand colostomies. It may also be used as a stabilizer and emulsifier. MC is a component of eye drops and contact lens solutions.
