Betaxolol hydrochloride has been used as a β1 blocking agent:for the preparation of crystals of (R,S)-betaxolol (BE-IV).to treat mammalian cells prior cell stimulation experiments.to study the solid structure of metoprolol.

Betaxolol hydrochloride has the ability to block calcium channels. Betaxolol is a selective β1 adrenoreceptor antagonist. It has neuroprotective effects on retinal neurons.
