The total hardness of a given sample is due to its content of salts of the alkaline earth metals calcium, magnesium, strontium, and barium (“hardening constituents”). Since strontium and barium are generally present in waters only in traces, the hardness is defined as the content in a water of calcium ions, Ca2+, and magnesium ions, Mg2+ (“hardness ions”).Method applied: In neutral solution calcium and magnesium ions form with phthalein purple a violet dye that is determined photometrically. The Spectroquant® Cell Tests come with prefilled 16 mm round cells and all the required reagents to perform the analysis according to the instruction leaflet provided. All Spectroquant® Cell and Reagent Test Kits are equipped with the unique Live ID (2D barcode) which allows seamless method recognition and contains essential information such as lot number, expiry date, and automatic calibration updates.
