The Bovine Herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) is caused by a double-stranded DNA virus of the Varicellovirus genus. The viral particle consists of a spherical envelope up to 200nm in diameter, a tegument containing both essential and non-essential proteins, a nucleocapsid, and a core containing the 136 kbp genome.
