Nucleic acid testing (NAT) is the method of choice for detection and quantification of a wide range of micro organisms. Primerdesign manufactures and supplies high quality quantitative real-time PCR kits for the detection and simultaneous quantification of numerous significant pathogens. A copy number standard curve is provided for quantification and the internal extraction template (DNA or RNA), controls for the quality of the nucleic acid extraction and eliminates false negative results. The kit is designed with the broadest possible detection profile to ensure that all clinically relevant strains and subtypes are detected. Target sequences are selected by working with data from key opinion leaders in the field. Multiple sequence alignments and unprecedented real-time PCR expertise in design and validation ensure the best possible kit.

A. laidlawii occurs in serum-free cell culture media products as well as causing contamination of tryptone soya broth. The presence of A. laidlawii in broth powders is a serious problem in routine biopharmaceutical operations where filtration is used as a sterilisation procedure. A. laidlawii may flourish and survive for prolonged periods at refrigeration and ambient temperatures in serum-free cell culture media. About 15-35% of all cultured bacterial or eukarial cell lines are infected with a limited number of Acholeplasma strains that are swine, bovine, or human in origin. This is a serious problem for biopharmaceutical production companies, as the presence of Acholeplasma laidlawii in cell cultures may distort results, and potentially spread certain viruses that could come into contact with patients. Although not considered a pathogenic organism to humans, it may cause opportunistic infections in those with weakened immune systems.

Because of the potential for contamination, rapid detection via qPCR is extremely useful in determining whether any taint is present.

The Primerdesign genesig Kit for Acholeplasma laidlawii (A.laidlawii) genomes is designed for the in vitro quantification of A.laidlawii genomes. The kit is designed to have a broad detection profile. Specifically, the primers represent 100% homology with over 95% of the NCBI database reference sequences available at the time of design.
