Application
Apo-Transferrin human has been used:to determine the competitive binding of bismuth to albumin and transferrin by fast performance liquid chromatography (FPLC)to study titanium-transferrin complex by electrochemical methodin the preparation of transferrin solution and in the formation of conjugates with ruthenium-complexes for cellular viability studies
Biochem/physiol Actions
Apo-transferrin is required for the survival and differentiation of oligodendroglial cells.
Apo-transferrin is an iron transport protein. The concentration of transferrin in blood plasma is about 35 μM. Transferrin also functions in the transport of therapeutic, diagnostic and toxic ions like Ga3+, Ru3+ and Al3+. Polymorphism in TF gene has pathological implications in Parkinson′s disease.
General description
Apo-transferrin human is a glycoprotein, possessing homologous carboxyl and amino domain. Both the domain binds to one molecule of iron. Only 30% of transferrin is saturated with iron in the amino domain. Apo-transferrin in human is encoded by the gene TF which is localized on human chromosome 3q22.1.
Linkage
Similar to T 2252
Other Notes
Non-heme iron-transport protein.
