Biochem/physiol Actions
Cyclin D1 (CCND1) regulates the Wnt signaling pathway. It also regulates the progression of the cell cycle from the G1 to S phase in many cell types. CCND1 phosphorylates and inactivates retinoblastoma (Rb) protein. Cyclin D1 has been associated with mantle cell lymphoma. This protein is overexpressed in multiple cancers like hepatocellular carcinoma.
General description
CyclinD1 is a member of the cyclin family of proteins that are important regulators cyclin-dependent protein kinases (CDKs). CyclinD1 forms a complex and functions as a regulatory subunit of CDK4 or CDK6 which are important during cell cycle G1/S transition. CyclinD1 has been shown to interact with the tumor suppressor protein Rb and the expression of CyclinD1 is positively regulated by Rb. Mutations, amplification and overexpression of CyclinD1 have been frequently observed in a variety of tumors and suggesting a role of this protein in tumorigenesis.Cyclin D1 (CCND1) is a proto-oncogene. It is one of the three D-type cyclins. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 11q13.
