Application
n-dodecyl-β-D-maltoside (DDM) has been used to solubilize mitochondrialextracts of fibroblasts to perform one-dimensional blue-native PAGE (BN-PAGE) analysis for assembled oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) complexes.
Biochem/physiol Actions
n-dodecyl-β-D-maltoside (DDM) exhibits biocompatibility and biodegradability. It serves as a facilitator of electron transfer in order to decrease the oxidation potential of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT). It can also increase the solubility of EDOT in aqueous solution.
General description
n-dodecyl-β-D-maltoside (DDM) is a sugar-based surfactant.
DDM is the most widely used detergent for the isolation and purification of GPCR’;s. In addition, LacY likely favors a higher-energy intermediate periplasmic-open conformation in situ, but collapses to a lower-energy periplasmic-closed conformation in DDM after purification. It is interesting to note that the branched-chain maltoside detergents stabilize LacY in the membrane-embedded form.
