Interleukin-18 along with IL-12, induces the production of interferon gamma. It participates in the modulation of lipid and glucose metabolism. It plays a major role in inflammation. Overexpression of IL-18 result in inflammatory diseases such as inflammatory myopathies and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
General description
Porcine IL18 / interleukin-18 is a cofactor that belongs to the IL-1 family. It is expressed in many mammalian cells/tissues like liver, adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. This gene is located on human chromosome 11q23.
