Application
Poly[d(I-C)] is used as a template for RNA polymerases, and as a DNA model for biophysical investigations. It is also used as a primer template with Kornberg DNA polymerase for the determination of small amounts of dITP, dGTP, and dCTP. Poly(dI-dC) has been used in electrophoretic mobility shift assays (EMSA).

Sequence
In an aqueous solution the DNA itself is a salt (the acid groups of the phosphate back bone have a negative charge and are saturated by positive sodium ions) i.e. there is no additional salt in solution. The structural formula which shows the negative 0-groups in the phosphate backbone is available. The same number of positive sodium ions must be dissociated in solution as counter ions. As the sodium ions are part of the product and saturate the phosphate groups, the lyophilisate is salt-free.
Chain Length approx. 20,000 bp
