General description
Tryptone Glucose Extract Broth with TTC is recommended for enumeration of bacteria in water, air, milk and dairy products. It is used as a standard medium for the bacteriological plate count and is also used for the detection of thermophilic bacteria in milk and dairy products. Tryptone and yeast extract provides nitrogenous and carbonaceous compounds, long chain amino acids, vitamin B complex and other essential growth nutrients. Glucose is the energy source, TTC is used as an indicator for easy enumeration. Colonies appear red. Red colour in the colonies is produced by reduction of triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC).{25}
