Coliform colonies appear deep red with distinct green metallic sheen
QC organismsE. coli (ATCC 25922)Mixed culture (E. coli, P. aeruginosa and P. vulgaris)
Application
m-Endo total coliform broth is used as a differential media to grow coliform bacteria from water samples. The media enables to differentiate between lactose fermenters from lactose non fermenters.

General description
m-Endo Total Coliform Broth is a selective and differential medium used for the estimation of coliform bacteria in water samples by membrane filtration technique.{6} The media enables to differentiate between lactose-fermenters and non-fermenters and the use of sodium sulphite and basic fuchsin instead of bile salts inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria. Coliforms ferment lactose and the resulting acetaldehyde reacts with sodium sulphite and basic fuchsin to form red colonies and similar colouration of the medium.{7} Lactose non-fermenters form colourless colonies. Ready-to-use Liquid ampoule media solve numerous problems in microbiology laboratories where time, equipment and trained personnel are often in short supply. They are available in convenient, single test 2 mL plastic ampoules, eliminating the manipulation of glass ampoules and avoiding the waste and spoilage associated with bulk packaged media.
