Application
Tryptic Soy Broth is a widely used medium for culturing aerobic gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria, fungus, routine blood cultures, and microbial biofilms. It is also been used as a growth medium to culture Staphylococcus aureus strains and as a growth medium for E.coli in the bacterial-killing assay (BKA) with bird plasma samples.

General description
Tryptic Soy Broth is a general-purpose liquid medium used in qualitative procedures for the sterility testing, enrichment, and cultivation of fastidious microorganisms. The formulation contains a combination of casein and soy peptones supplying organic nitrogen, particularly amino acids and long-chained peptides. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium and dextrose serves as a source of carbohydrate and energy.

Preparation Note
Suspend 30 g of dehydrated media in 1 litre of purified filtered water. Heat with frequent agitation and boil for one minute. Sterilize at 121°C for 15 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C. Mix gently and dispense into sterile Petri dishes or sterile culture tubes.
