Universal Pre-enrichment Broth (UPB) has been used in the enrichment of Listeria monocytogenesandSalmonella species. It has also been used in the growth kinetic studies of Salmonella typhimurium.

General description

Universal Pre-enrichment Broth (UPB) is used for recovering sublethally injured Salmonella and Listeria from food products. UPB lacks inhibitory agents to provide selectivity for target pathogens and may not be adapted for samples with high levels of background microflora.

Preparation Note

Suspend 38.05 grams in 1000 ml distilled water. Heat if necessary, to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes. Mix well and dispense as desired.
