Application
Boric acid can be used as fungicide, bactericide, antiseptic, insecticide. Large scale use in glass industry as flame retardant, in buffer solutions.Boric acid finds uses in several areas; such as In glass fibres, to enhance its resistance and color In glazing ceramic wares As a condensing agent, chemical intermediate and as a precursor for preparation of borates and other boron based compounds As a water coolant in nuclear reactors In electrolytic condensers and capacitors 1
General description
Boric acid is a weak monobasic acid, it accepts OH- ions, hence is a Lewis acid. In boric acid, B is sp2 hybridized, forming a planar triangle structure. The principal oxide of boron, B2O3, is obtained as a vitreous solid by dehydration of boric acid at red heat.
