Icosahedral dodecaborate clusters of the type B12(OCH2C6F5)12 are new class of metal-free photooxidants able to undergo photoexcitation with visible light. These clusters have been utilized for the oxidation of both activated and unactivated olefins in the presence of blue light, leading to their polymerization.
