Application
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid dipotassium salt dehydrate has been used as a component:of EDTA–glycerol solution (EDTA-G) for decalcificationof buffer for monoamine and pterine analysisof T-cell resuspension buffer
Used to eliminate inhibition of enzyme catalyzed reactions due to traces of heavy metals
Biochem/physiol Actions
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is an anticoagulant, majorly used in preventing clotting of blood. EDTA may trigger aggregation of platelets resulting in pseudothrombocytopenia. EDTA-tetracycline therapy decreases coronary artery calcium levels in atherosclerosis. Calcium disodium EDTA administration is effective in slowing down the progression of chronic kidney disease. It also enhances the antimicrobial functionality of lysozyme and improves shelf life of cheese.
