Application
Guaiacol has been used:as a substrate for peroxidase enzyme to determine its activityas a substrate to determine laccase activityas a reagent in peroxidase (POD) activity test
Biochem/physiol Actions
Guaiacol has an ability to inhibit prostaglandin biosynthesis, without causing damage to the gastrointestinal system, unlike classic NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
Guaiacol, along with 2,4,6-trichloroanisole, is responsible for cork taint in wine. A method has been developed for extraction and quantitation of the two compounds.
Caution
May be liquid at room temperature.
General description
