The Smart-Q™ 100 & 800 from Accuris Instruments offer fast and accurate quantitation of DNA, RNA and protein samples using the well-established method of florescence detection. This method is highly specific and provides higher accuracy than UV absorbance quantitation. Applications such as Next Gen Sequencing, PCR, transfection, western blotting, and immunoassays require suitable quantities of nucleic acids or proteins, and the Smart-Q fluorometers provide accurate measurements to ensure downstream success.
Each instruments features a large 7” colour touch screen and an intuitive, icon-driven user interface. Users can select from various modes to quantify dsDNA, RNA, and proteins. Results are quickly calculated and displayed in less than 6 seconds, and saved to the instrument’s internal memory. All data can be also be exported easily to a PC using a flash drive.
The Smart-Q Fluorometer and assay kits are designed to measure the intensity of the signal from fluorescent dyes bound to specific biological molecules. These optimised dyes bind selectively to DNA, RNA, or protein and only emit a fluorescent signal when bound to the target. The Smart-Q Fluorometer uses specialised curve-fitting algorithms to develop a calibration curve using standard samples with a known concentration. An unknown sample concentration of DNA, RNA, or protein is calculated by comparing the relative fluorescence units (RFUs) of the sample to the RFUs of the standards used in calibration. The detection limits of the measurements are specific to each assay.
Two Smart-Q models are available. The Smart-Q 100 is designed for processing one sample at a time by adding sample and reagents to a 0.5mL fluorescence detection tube. Fluorescence detection and calculations take less than 6 seconds, perfect for labs processing a handful of samples. However, if throughput is critical, and a large quantities of samples need to be evaluated quickly, the Smart-Q 800 provides the solution. The Smart-Q 800 model can evaluate up to 8 samples at once in 8-strip PCR tubes. With the use of an 8-channel pipette, reagent preparation and sample transferring is extremely efficient.
