Application
Glycine has been added in the transfer buffer during western blotting procedure. It has been used in the solution prepared for dissolving formazan crystals in the MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide) cytotoxicity assay. It has been used for terminating the rat basophilic leukemia (RBL) assay.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Glycine is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and works as an allosteric regulator of NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptors. It is involved in processing of motor and sensory data, thereby regulating movement, vision and audition.
Inhibitory neurotransmitter in spinal cord, allosteric regulator of NMDA receptors.
General description
Glycine is a non-chiral amino acid. Glycine is a molecule with pI of 6.7, which is similar to the pH of stacking region in polyacrylamide gels. It has advantage of low mobility, hydrophobicity and it does not associate with proteins.
